معرفی
David Gray is a Professor of Translational Biology and Head of Biology at the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU) within the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee. His role involves strategic leadership in drug discovery for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as malaria, leishmaniasis, sleeping sickness, TB, and Chagas’ disease. He oversees assay development, high-throughput screening, and hit-to-lead optimization programs. The DDU, under his leadership, integrates biotech-style workflows to advance novel drug candidates.
Education: PhD (University of London, 1992); BSc (University of Glasgow, 1988).
Research focuses on translating basic science into therapeutic tools using multidisciplinary approaches. Key areas include target validation, small molecule screening, and mechanism-of-action studies. His work emphasizes drug discovery for NTDs, leveraging Biotech standards for project management and compound selection.
Recent articles highlight advances in RNA methylation enzyme inhibition, Trypanosoma cruzi proteasome inhibitors, and HTS methodologies. His awards include the British Empire Medal (2021) and the RSE Mary Somerville Medal (2024). Collaborative grants include projects with the Medical Research Council (MRC) and industry partners like GSK. He coordinates courses such as Drug Discovery & Development (BS32003) and Advanced Modern Drug Discovery (BS42004).
Labs/Teams: Leading the DDU’s Biology team, collaborating with computational, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology groups to advance preclinical candidates. Active in global health initiatives, including the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research.
