Kevin's research centers on the intersection of racism and international security, particularly in the realm of nuclear politics and IR theory. He explores how racial hierarchies shape elite international institutions and influence global power dynamics. His book project, Racism among Nations: How Competition and Collusion Perpetuate Hierarchy and Equality, investigates inclusion criteria for nonwhite states in international elite clubs. His work bridges critical race theory with realist international relations, offering innovative perspectives on structural inequality in global politics.
His recent publications focus on realism and racism, with one article published in Security Studies and another analyzing the work of Merze Tate, the first Black woman to earn a PhD in government from Harvard. These works reflect a broader scholarly trend of re-examining foundational IR theories through the lens of race, identity, and historical exclusion.
Kevin has received several prestigious fellowships recognizing his contributions and potential in the field of international security:
- MacArthur Hennessy Fellow, Stanford University (upcoming)
- Hans J. Morgenthau Fellow, Notre Dame International Security Center
- APSA Diversity Fellow
As a proud product of the Miami-Dade County Public School System and a first-generation, low-income student, Kevin is deeply committed to mentoring and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds. He aims to foster personal and professional growth in his students, drawing from his own transformative educational experiences. Prior to graduate studies, he taught English, World History, and Ethics at the high school level, further demonstrating his dedication to education and equity.
Kevin is affiliated with CISAC at Stanford University, a leading interdisciplinary research center focused on international security challenges. His work contributes to critical conversations on race, power, and inclusion in global affairs, positioning him at the forefront of a transformative wave in international relations scholarship.
