Kevin Bryson is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM), where he leads the jazz studies program within the Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a D.M.A. in Instrumental Jazz Performance from the University of Miami, an M.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California, and a B.M. in Jazz Performance and Music Synthesis from Berklee College of Music.
His research and creative work spans jazz performance, improvisation theory, music technology, and sound design. Dr. Bryson's interests include electro-acoustic integration, generative music systems, and interactive improvisation with computers. He developed a novel method called Linear Chord Scale Analysis for understanding post-bop jazz harmony, as detailed in his doctoral dissertation.
As a performer, he has played at major venues such as Avery Fisher Hall, Abbey Road Studios, and the San Jose Jazz Festival, collaborating with artists like Arturo Sandoval and Jennifer Hudson. His technological contributions include sound design for the award-winning Receptor and Muse Box modules, used by international acts including Coldplay and Paul McCartney.
