Kerstin Roger is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on chronic illness, mental health, aging, caregiving, and end-of-life studies. Dr. Roger has led nationally and internationally funded research projects, including work with organizations like PHAC, SSHRC, and the Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (CNPEA). She is affiliated with institutions such as the Centre on Aging and the Qualitative Research Group (QRG).
Dr. Roger holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto and has extensive postdoctoral training in palliative care research. Her educational background also includes certifications in clinical psychotherapy and applied psychology. She actively mentors graduate students and is currently accepting Master's and PhD candidates.
Her research interests include elder abuse, family caregiving dynamics, and the social determinants of health. She employs innovative qualitative methods like photovoice and critical discourse analysis to explore health-related issues. Her work addresses systemic challenges in long-term care, healthcare access for marginalized populations, and the ethical dimensions of research involving older adults.
Dr. Roger collaborates with community organizations and global networks to translate research into policy and practice. She has published extensively on topics ranging from dementia care to HIV disclosure strategies, emphasizing participatory and interdisciplinary approaches.
