Genevieve Thompson is a Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Manitoba, where she holds a Canada Research Chair in Person-Directed Living. She is actively engaged in research, teaching, and leadership, focusing on improving care in long-term care settings through person-centered, respectful, and compassionate practices.

Her educational background includes a PhD (2007), Master of Nursing (2003), and Bachelor of Nursing (1997), all from the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Thompson's research centers on palliative and end-of-life care, long-term care, and the preservation of dignity during intimate personal care. She employs qualitative methodologies to explore the experiences of residents, families, and care staff, aiming to foster holistic, psychologically sensitive care environments. Her work emphasizes the importance of mindful, relational care that supports not only physical health but also mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
She teaches undergraduate courses such as NURS 2518 (Health & Illness 2: The Older Adult) and NURS 3510 (Client & Context 3: Supportive and Palliative Care), as well as a graduate-level course in qualitative research methods. Her research has been funded by tri-agency and provincial grants, and she has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
Dr. Thompson has received numerous scientific awards and recognitions:

Her research group includes the Nursing Home Research Team and the Interest Group on Person-Centered Care. She collaborates with organizations such as Riverview Health Centre and Palliative Manitoba to translate research into practice and policy.
