Kerstin Alfes serves as Professor of Organisation and Human Resource Management at ESCP Business School's Berlin campus, where she teaches leadership, diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and human resource management courses across graduate, post-graduate, and executive programs.
Her educational background includes a Habilitation (2014) and Dr. rer. oec. (PhD equivalent, 2008) from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and a Master's Degree (Diplom-Kauffrau) from the University of Mannheim, Germany (2004). Prior academic appointments include Senior Lecturer at Kingston University London and Assistant Professor at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.
Professor Alfes' research focuses on strategic human resource management, neurodiversity in the workplace, employee engagement dynamics, and emerging work arrangements. Her scholarly contributions have been published in premier journals including Human Resource Management, Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and International Journal of Management Reviews.
She has successfully secured research funding from major institutions such as the Economic and Social Research Council, National Institute for Health Research, and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, along with industry partners. Current research projects investigate ADHD workplace experiences, freelancing dynamics, and HR practices within emergency service organizations (police, firefighters, paramedics).
Professor Alfes actively engages with industry through consulting on engagement and DEI strategy implementation and regularly serves as keynote speaker at professional conferences and seminars.
