Kerry Griffiths is a Senior Research Fellow in the Sport Industry Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University, specializing in the sociology of sport and sport management. She holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology, MSc in Sport Management, MA in Sociological Research Methods, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Nottingham (2011). Her research focuses on sport participation barriers, gender and sport (particularly women/girls), health/wellbeing outcomes, and the social impact of sport. She also explores trends in the health/fitness industry, including pole dancing as a feminist leisure activity.
Teaching includes courses like BSc/MSc Sport Business Management and BSc Sport Development with Coaching. She has taught qualitative research methods, literature reviews, and social theory. She supervises undergraduate/postgraduate sport-related projects.
Key research projects include evaluations of sport programs for older adults, women/girls' participation, and social impact analyses for organizations like Sport England and BUCS. Her book Femininity, Feminism and Recreational Pole Dancing (2015) examines the cultural significance of pole dancing for women.
Skills include systematic literature reviews, ethnographic research, project management, and Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis. Prior to SHU, she worked on a European policing project.
