Keonhi Son is a Research Fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim, specializing in the historical political economy of gender with regional focus on Europe and work-family challenges in the Global South.
Academic Background:
- Ph.D. from Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS)
Research Focus: Dr. Son investigates the origins of women's economic and social rights in advanced capitalist societies (late 19th to mid-20th century), analyzing how socio-economic and political factors shaped state governance of women's labor. Her work demonstrates that descriptive representation of women in parliaments critically influenced gender policymaking after suffrage, while exploring advocacy strategies of women's movements and female voters. Current research examines global family policy impacts on women in the Global South through historical database construction.
Key Projects: Leading database development for CRC 1342's "Pathways to Family Policy Universalism" project (165 countries, 1883-2018), and preparing a Principal Investigator proposal for "Work-Family Policies: Socio-Economic Outcomes and Policy Learning" to evaluate policy impacts in the Global South.
Affiliations: Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES); Collaborative Research Center 1342 "Global Dynamics of Social Policy"; current visiting scholar at Sciences Po Paris; former visitor at Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies.
Research Leadership: As Principal Investigator for historical database construction and upcoming Global South policy evaluation, Dr. Son directs significant grant-funded research on transnational social policy development and implementation.
