Kent D Choquette

Kent D Choquette is the Abel Bliss Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and serves as Associate Head for Graduate Student Affairs. He is also affiliated with the Micro and Nanotechnology Lab and the European Union Center. His research focuses on advanced optoelectronic devices, particularly Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs), photonic crystals, and laser arrays. Recent work emphasizes supermode stability, photon-photon resonance, and buried dielectric structures in photonic devices.

Choquette's honors include AAAS Fellow (2012), IEEE Fellow (2003), and SPIE's Aden and Marjorie Meinel Technology Achievement Award (2016). His contributions span 650+ publications and collaborations across multiple countries. He leads research teams exploring next-generation photonic technologies with applications in communications and instrumentation.
