Kenny Phua

Dr. Kenny Phua is a Senior Lecturer in the Finance Discipline Group at the UTS Business School, affiliated with the Digital Finance CRC. He holds a PhD in Finance from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and joined UTS in 2019. His research focuses on forensic finance, consumer fraud, and digital economy challenges, with publications in top journals like the Journal of Financial Economics. He has presented at major conferences (AFA, EFA, MFA) and received awards for his research. Dr. Phua teaches corporate finance and asset pricing, delivering cross-cultural education in the UTS-SILC joint program in Shanghai. He chairs the Finance Department’s Recruitment Committee and referees for journals such as the Review of Financial Studies. His military background (Singapore Armed Forces Commandos) informs his leadership style.

Research interests include the economics of financial scams, privacy costs in digital transactions, and central bank policies. His funded projects include grants from UTS and Singapore’s Ministry of Education. Collaborations span institutions globally, with notable work on ICO fraud and Bank of Japan equity purchases.

Dr. Phua’s service includes organizing seminars and contributing to reproducibility initiatives in management science. He advises on grants, such as the DF CRC scholarship for asset tokenization research, and engages in public discourse via media outlets like the Wall Street Journal and 2SER Radio.
