Ken Zagacki is a Professor of Communication and former Department Head at NC State University’s Department of Communication, part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Rhetorical Theory and Criticism from the University of Texas, Austin (1986). His research focuses on presidential rhetoric, scientific argumentation, visual communication, and the intersection of philosophy and rhetoric. Current projects explore Thomas Merton’s 1964 ethos, Barack Obama’s Dallas speech, Anselm Kiefer’s art, and medical trial narratives.
Zagacki’s publications emphasize rhetorical analysis in diverse contexts, including civil rights history, urban spaces, and public art. His work bridges theoretical and applied communication studies, with notable contributions to the Quarterly Journal of Speech, Philosophy & Rhetoric, and Rhetoric & Public Affairs. He teaches rhetorical theory, ethics, and communication theory.
Professional affiliations include the Department of Communication faculty and the Ph.D. program in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media. His research highlights interdisciplinary approaches, blending rhetorical theory with cultural, ethical, and visual studies.
