Andrew Barnes

Andrew Barnes serves as an Instructor in the School of Communication Studies at James Madison University. He holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University, where his dissertation explored the intersection of cosmopolitan norms and the nation-state system through analysis of U.S. presidential addresses at the U.N. General Assembly. His research focuses on presidential and foreign policy rhetoric, cosmopolitanism, and argumentation theory.

Andrew has co-authored works in Presidential Studies Quarterly and contributed to edited volumes such as Evaluating U.S. Presidential Leadership at the United Nations and The Guide to U.S. Foreign Policy. His presentations include analyses of hegemony and cosmopolitanism at the Rhetoric Society of America, and strategic ambiguity in U.S.-China negotiations at the National Communication Association conference.

Teaching: Courses in rhetorical theory, argumentation, public speaking, and media theory.
