Kenneth S. Zaret, the Joseph Leidy Professor and Director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, is affiliated with the Perelman School of Medicine and the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology.
- Executive Committee, University of Pennsylvania Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Disease
- Member, Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism
His research focuses on chromatin biology, transcriptional regulation, and cell fate determination, particularly in liver and pancreas development. He discovered pioneer factors that enable chromatin remodeling for cellular reprogramming and identified chromatin domains resisting reprogramming. His work also explores inductive signaling and histone modifications as therapeutic targets.
Key publication trends include epigenetic reprogramming, chromatin structure analysis, and transcription factor mechanisms, with collaborations in biochemistry, computational biology, and developmental genetics.
He mentors students and researchers in Zaret Lab, including graduate students in Cell and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics programs. The lab is part of Penn's Institute for Regenerative Medicine and associated with University of Pennsylvania's core facilities.
