Kenneth R. Rutherford is a Professor of Political Science at James Madison University (JMU), serving as Director of its Center for International Stabilization and Recovery. He holds a Ph.D. from Georgetown University, a B.A. and MBA from the University of Colorado (distinguished alumnus), and has held roles including UNHCR Emergency Coordinator, Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, humanitarian relief officer in Kenya/Somalia, and Fulbright Scholar in Jordan.
His research focuses on international law, humanitarian intervention, landmine policy, and global governance. Major works include books on landmines in the Civil War era, the global anti-landmine movement, and Somalia’s humanitarian crisis. He teaches courses on international law, laws of war, global disability rights, and stability operations.
