Professor Lee is a pioneer in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research in Asia. His research centers on health and pharmacoeconomics, focusing on the measurement and valuation of health using preference-based instruments and discrete choice experiments. He specializes in patient-level data analysis and decision-analytic modeling, critically evaluating the validity of such assessments in global and emerging economy contexts. His recent work emphasizes large-scale, robust studies to support healthcare planning and policy decisions with less speculative evidence.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in health economic evaluations across chronic conditions such as heart failure, diabetes, and cancer. The articles highlight methodologies including systematic reviews, budget impact analyses, and randomized trials integrating economic components. Key domains include cost-effectiveness, health-related quality of life, and policy-relevant modeling for healthcare systems in Asia, particularly Malaysia.
- Justice of the Peace, Government of Hong Kong (2003)
Professor Lee has been Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical Economics since 2006 and is Co-Editor of Value in Health Regional Issues. He has led multiple research grants and consultancy projects, including budget impact analyses for the Malaysian Ministry of Health and cost-effectiveness studies on biologics for psoriasis and thalassaemia. He actively supervises postgraduate researchers, including external PhD candidates like Deanna Mill. His work is widely cited and has influenced health policy, being referenced in policy sources and widely shared in academic networks.
He leads an active research network with collaborators across Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the UK, focusing on real-world health economic applications. His projects often involve interdisciplinary teams and aim to translate research into actionable health policy. The ongoing BIA project on apremilast (2025) underscores his continued leadership in pharmaceutical economic evaluation.
