Kendra Portier is an Associate Professor and holder of the Maya Brin Endowed Professorship in Dance at the University of Maryland. She serves as Co-Director of the Maya Brin Institute for New Performance and Head of the MFA Dance Program within the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies. Her work bridges rigorous artistic inquiry with interdisciplinary practices, emphasizing movement, color, and ecology.
Education:
- B.F.A. in Dance (with honors), The Ohio State University
- M.F.A. in Dance, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Research & Practice: Portier’s expertise spans Ballet Technique, Choreography, and Modern Dance Technique. Her creative research explores themes like color, ecology, and interdisciplinary collaboration, exemplified in projects such as “The Pantone Variations” and “red dirt glitter”. She merges visual arts aesthetics with performance, creating works like “Geologic Body” and “Vital Studies”.
