Kena Avila serves as an Associate Professor and ESOL Coordinator within the Department of Elementary Education at Linfield University, where she also holds the role of Elementary Education Coordinator.
Her academic credentials include:

- M.S. from Portland State University
- Ph.D. from Oregon State University
Her research centers on bilingualism and effective pedagogical strategies for bilingual student success in K-12 settings, with deep expertise in culturally responsive teaching methodologies for linguistically diverse populations. Current teaching responsibilities encompass ESOL instruction planning (EDUC 340), foundational literacy education (EDUC 401), advanced literacy development (EDUC 402), and student teaching seminars.
With extensive hands-on experience spanning preschool through university levels across California, Oregon, Mexico, and Ecuador—including immersive teaching periods in Oaxaca and South America during 2016-2017—she integrates global perspectives into her educational framework.
