Ken-ichi Noma is a Professor of Biology at the University of Oregon, with a full membership in the Institute of Molecular Biology. His research focuses on the 3D organization of genomes and its role in nuclear processes, aging, and cancer.
Education:
- B.S., Nagaoka University of Technology
- Ph.D., University of Tokyo
Research Interests center on chromosome dynamics, epigenetics, and cellular senescence, particularly how these mechanisms contribute to cancer and aging. His lab uses fission yeast and human systems to study these phenomena through genomic technologies and live-cell imaging.
Publication Trends reveal a consistent focus on chromosome organization, epigenetic regulation, and cellular senescence, with recent work extending to condensin complex functions and chromatin remodeling.
Scientific Awards:
- AAAS Newcomb Cleveland Prize (2003)
- NIH Director’s New Innovators Award (2008)
Grants from the National Institutes of Health, G. Harold & Leila Y. Mathers Foundation, and others have supported his work. His lab team includes researchers exploring chromatin domains, gene regulation, and fission yeast models.
