Ken Smith is a Professor of Companion Animal Pathology and Head of the Graduate School at the Royal Veterinary College, affiliated with the Department of Pathobiology & Population Sciences. His career spans roles at the Animal Health Trust and Royal Veterinary College, including leadership positions in veterinary pathology.
- Education: Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (1988), PhD in equine herpesviral pathogenesis (Wellcome Trust-funded)
Research interests focus on the pathogenesis of infectious diseases and pregnancy failure in horses, alongside development of diagnostic/prognostic markers for neoplasia in dogs and cats. Recent collaborative work includes:
- Equine Umbilical Cord Twisting (epidemiological modeling for diagnostic refinement)
- Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (collaborative research with Cornell University)
- Mammary Tumors (prognostic marker development)
