Professor John Munday serves as Professor in Veterinary Pathobiology and Associate Dean - Research at Massey University's School of Veterinary Science, where he also directs research. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) with 20+ years of diagnostic pathology experience across New Zealand and the United States, he specializes in animal disease pathogenesis and diagnosis.

Munday's research centers on veterinary cancer pathology, particularly prognostic markers for neoplasia in companion animals and infectious agents' role in domestic species carcinogenesis. He pioneered the discovery linking papillomavirus to feline skin cancer, becoming the first to sequence two feline papillomaviruses and prove bovine origins of the feline sarcoid virus. His 170+ peer-reviewed publications include a chapter in veterinary cancer pathology's premier textbook, bridging veterinary and human oncology through molecular virology and comparative approaches.
As an active doctoral supervisor, he currently leads three PhD candidates as chief supervisor while directing the School of Veterinary Science's research initiatives. His work emphasizes clinical applications of viral oncology findings and diagnostic technique development.
