Professor Ken Masuda is affiliated with the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences at Nagasaki University, specializing in medical anthropology and socio-cultural dynamics. He teaches at the Tropical Medicine and Hygiene program (TMGH) and supervises Master's theses in the International Health Development program.
His research focuses on:
- Medical anthropology and healthcare systems in Africa
- Global aging and elderly care
- Modernization processes in traditional societies
- Medical pluralism and cultural adaptation
Recent publications highlight fieldwork in Bangladesh, Kenya, and Ethiopia, addressing reproductive health, elderly care, and cultural impacts of globalization. His work spans East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia) and connects social anthropology with public health.
He has conducted continuous fieldwork since 1993 with the Banna people in southern Ethiopia, examining inter-ethnic conflicts and development impacts during globalization.
