Ken Cooper

Ken Cooper is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico.

Education:

• MCM in Construction Management, Western Carolina University (2016)
• BS in Civil Engineering, University of Arizona (1986)
• AAS in Carpenters Apprenticeship, Pima Community College (1980)

His research focuses on transportation safety and accessibility, particularly in highway design and multi-modal facilities. He pioneered the nation’s first study on high-tension cable median barriers to prevent crossover collisions and advocated for Smart Cushions at high-risk crash sites via Federal Highway Administration policies. He designed Arizona’s bicycle-friendly cattleguards and related placement/maintenance guidelines.

• Chair, Construction Institute’s Value Engineering Committee
• Currently serves on the ASCE national Committee on the Civil Engineering Technologist
