Ken Cooper is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico.
Education:
- MCM in Construction Management, Western Carolina University (2016)
- BS in Civil Engineering, University of Arizona (1986)
- AAS in Carpenters Apprenticeship, Pima Community College (1980)
His research focuses on transportation safety and accessibility, particularly in highway design and multi-modal facilities. He pioneered the nation’s first study on high-tension cable median barriers to prevent crossover collisions and advocated for Smart Cushions at high-risk crash sites via Federal Highway Administration policies. He designed Arizona’s bicycle-friendly cattleguards and related placement/maintenance guidelines.

- American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Construction Institute since 1986
- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) member
- Chair, Construction Institute’s Value Engineering Committee
- Currently serves on the ASCE national Committee on the Civil Engineering Technologist
Teaching Interests: Engineering Economics, Cost Estimating, Project Scheduling, Temporary Traffic Controls, and Route Surveying.
