Kelly Hopkins is an Assistant Professor of Early American history in the Department of History at the University of Houston. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis and an M.A. from the University of Akron. Her research examines interactions between European colonists and Native Americans, particularly focusing on Haudenosaunee survivance strategies.
Her forthcoming book, Iroquoia: Haudenosaunee Life and Culture, 1630-1783 (Cornell University Press, 2025), highlights how Haudenosaunee peoples maintained sovereignty through seven generations of social and environmental changes. This research was supported by a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship.
Dr. Hopkins teaches courses on Colonial North America, the American Revolution, Native North America, and graduate seminars in Early North America. She actively participates in pedagogical initiatives to enhance undergraduate education and student success.
