His research centers on the historical impact of European-introduced diseases on Native American communities, analyzing epidemics within the broader context of colonialism, social disruption, and structural violence. His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary concerns in global health, particularly health disparities and the social determinants of disease. He is the author of Epidemics and Enslavement and Cherokee Medicine, Colonial Germs, and is currently expanding his research to examine Native experiences during the Seven Years’ War, the American Revolution, and Indian Removal.
While no specific publications, students, or awards are listed in the current text, his scholarly influence is evident through his sustained focus on the intersection of medicine, environment, and colonial power. He contributes significantly to the fields of early American history and Indigenous studies, with ongoing projects that deepen our understanding of Native resilience and survival in the face of catastrophic demographic change.
