Dr. Kelly Feille is an Associate Professor of Science Education at the University of Oklahoma’s Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, holding the Jane and John Kenney Endowed Education Faculty Fellow position. Her work focuses on enhancing science education through innovative pedagogical approaches, particularly in outdoor and non-traditional classroom settings. Previously, she taught science across Pre-K to 6th grade in public schools, bringing practical experience to her academic role.
Her research centers on developing elementary science teachers’ competencies, emphasizing schoolyard pedagogy—a method leveraging outdoor and community-based learning environments. She designs curricula to foster critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and student-driven inquiry. Key projects include engineering fairs for young students and family science nights to bridge classroom and community engagement.
Dr. Feille’s publications (2013–2025) explore teacher identity development, field-based programs for underserved students, and the impact of outdoor pedagogy on student perceptions of science. She has contributed to frameworks for teacher training and authored studies on equity in STEM education and environmental sustainability.
Her awards include the endowed faculty fellowship, recognizing her leadership in advancing science education through innovative research and mentorship. Dr. Feille collaborates with centers like the Ctr for Ed Dev & Research (CEDaR) and focuses on preparing educators to implement dynamic, evidence-based teaching strategies.
