Kelly Baek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Social Ecology at Loma Linda University. Her work focuses on mental health, culturally-grounded interventions, and community-based research. She holds a PhD in Social Policy and Social Research from Loma Linda University (2018) and an MSW from Wayne State University (2009). She is a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor for adults and a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
Her research interests include mental health disparities among Korean American communities, trauma-informed interventions for veterans, and global health issues like intimate partner violence in conflict zones. She leads projects such as the Korean American Community-Based Mental Health Interventions and the Silk Road Project, aiming to bridge cultural gaps in healthcare access.
Dr. Baek actively contributes to community engagement through roles like mental health consultant for Korean Seventh-day Adventist churches and research mentor for the Center for Health Disparities & Molecular Medicine (CHDMM) students. Her work emphasizes collaboration with underserved populations to design effective, culturally sensitive programs.
Her academic contributions span peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences like the American Public Health Association and American Psychological Association, addressing topics such as veteran wellness programs and healthcare professional burnout mitigation.
