معرفی
Kelley Steury, DVM, MPH, DACVPM, serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Pathobiology at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Co-Director of the Public and One Health Program. She instructs Veterinary Public Health to second-year veterinary students and coordinates Auburn's undergraduate public health minor, teaching courses in Introduction to Public Health and Epidemiology. Dr. Steury also manages joint DVM/MPH degree programs with the University of Minnesota and UAB while providing career counseling across student levels.
Education:
- MPH, University of Alabama Birmingham, 2018
- DVM, Texas A&M University, 2004
- BS, University of Colorado, 1996
Dr. Steury's research centers on Veterinary Public Health with emphasis on zoonotic disease transmission, epidemiological methods, and food safety systems. Her work integrates disaster medicine preparedness and wildlife disease ecology within the One Health framework, particularly examining spatial-temporal patterns of pathogens like Salmonella across human-animal interfaces in Alabama. This multidisciplinary approach bridges clinical veterinary practice with population-level health interventions.
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on food animal pathology (particularly bovine diseases including parasites, pneumonia, and clostridial infections) alongside diagnostic methodology development. Recent work demonstrates rapid adaptation to emerging threats through SARS-CoV-2 investigations in companion animals and advanced molecular diagnostics for canine parvovirus, reflecting agility in addressing contemporary zoonotic challenges.
Scientific Awards:
- Spring 2018 Public Health Capstone Award from UAB
- Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM), 2017
Dr. Steury provides comprehensive public health career guidance to undergraduate, veterinary, and graduate students while coordinating dual-degree pathways. Her research on Salmonella outbreak dynamics indicates grant-supported activity, though specific funding sources aren't detailed. She maintains active involvement in USDA accreditation training and serves as academic advisor for students pursuing veterinary public health careers.
Professional engagements include membership in the American Association of Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (AAVLD), National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (NASPHV), and American Association of Food Safety and Public Health Veterinarians (AAFSPHV). She contributes to state policy through the Alabama Department of Public Health's Council on Animal and Environmental Health, building on prior experience at the Thompson Bishop Sparks State Diagnostic Laboratory and Auburn's Equine Source Plasma Project.
