Kelley Borton, PhD, MPH, RDN, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition/Dietetics at Oakland University’s School of Health Sciences. Her work focuses on the intersection of media, weight perception, and eating behaviors. She holds a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Michigan and bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University.
Dr. Borton’s research explores how weight and nutrition are portrayed in media and their impact on health behaviors, disordered eating, and weight stigma. She investigates weight-inclusive nutrition approaches for disease treatment and develops group interventions for disordered eating prevention. Her teaching emphasizes clinical nutrition, eating disorder treatment, and public health interventions.
Her recent articles examine body positivity movements’ effects on youth, healthcare avoidance due to weight perception, and eating disorder risk factors among rural adolescents and sexual minorities. She is affiliated with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and the Academy for Eating Disorders.
