Keith Reinhardt is a Professor of Plant Physiological Ecology at Idaho State University (ISU), Department of Biological Sciences. He currently (August 2023–2025) serves as a rotating Program Director in the Integrative Organismal Systems Division of the National Science Foundation (NSF). His research focuses on plant responses to climate change, ecohydrology, and functional ecology, with a particular emphasis on water and carbon flux dynamics across scales. He leads the Reinhardt Lab of Plant Physiological Ecology and teaches courses such as Plant Physiology, Field Ecology, and Plant Form and Function.
Education: PhD in Plant Physiological Ecology (Wake Forest University, 2009), MS in Environmental Sciences (University of Virginia, 2001), BS in Chemistry (College of William & Mary, 1994). Postdoctoral training in Sagebrush ecohydrology at ISU (2009–2011).
Research interests include mechanisms of species' range limits, hydraulic functioning in plants, and cloud-forest ecohydrology. Recent work addresses tree water dynamics, storage, and transport using isotopic tracing and SAS functions. His field studies span temperate deciduous forests, mountain ecosystems, and semi-arid shrublands.
His articles explore topics like water movement in tree species, sagebrush phenotypic variation, and climate change impacts on plant-pollinator networks.
