Keith Luria is a Professor in the Department of History at North Carolina State University, affiliated with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His work focuses on early-modern European religious history, with specializations in France, gender studies, and global religious conversion dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (1982), following a B.A. (1975) and M.A. (1978) from Brandeis University and UC Berkeley respectively.
His research explores religious coexistence, confessional boundaries, and cultural exchange in early-modern France. Major works include Territories of Grace (1991) and Sacred Boundaries (2005), examining religious governance and conflict in the 17th-century diocese of Grenoble. Current projects investigate global religious conversion and European encounters with non-European religions.
Publications span book chapters and journal articles addressing topics like Protestant/Catholic Reformation dynamics, gendered religious experiences, and political dimensions of religious identity. He teaches courses on European history from the Renaissance to the French Revolution, and world history frameworks.
His academic affiliations include membership in the Department of History’s Europe & Britain, Religion, and World faculty groups. Office hours are held Monday/Wednesday mornings or by appointment in Withers Hall 470.
