Dr. Keith Johnson is a Professor of Theology at Wheaton College, where he teaches introductory theology courses and advanced electives on doctrines and figures such as Karl Barth. He received the Senior Teaching Achievement Award in 2022 for sustained excellence in teaching. His research focuses on modern and contemporary theology, the Protestant dogmatic tradition, and theological pedagogy. He is currently writing a monograph on Karl Barth and Christian nationalism.
Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary (2008), a Th.M. from Duke Divinity School (2004), and M.Div. and B.A. degrees from Baylor University (2002, 1999). His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Religion and the Karl Barth Society of North America.
His publications include Theology as Discipleship (2015), The Essential Karl Barth, and numerous articles on Barthian theology, Trinitarian theology, and theological education. His work bridges academic theology and ecclesial practice, emphasizing theology as a form of discipleship rooted in Scripture and the church’s tradition.
Dr. Johnson’s research trends focus on Barth’s engagement with German Christian nationalism, interfaith dialogues, and theological pedagogy. He advises students in theology and mentors through courses like BITH 374 (Systematic Theology) and BITH 675 (Advanced Systematic Theology).
