Dr. Kazuko Suzuki is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Texas A&M University, affiliated with the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI) and the Women's and Gender Studies Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Princeton University (2003), with regional concentrations in US, East Asia (Japan), and Russia. Her research focuses on global race studies, international migration, gender/sexuality, and East Asian sociocultural dynamics. Suzuki has held visiting roles at Yale University and affiliations with institutions like Stanford’s CASBS and Columbia’s Weatherhead East Asian Institute. She is a co-organizer of the 2025 Critical Minerals One-Day Conference and serves on the board of Studies in Comparative Political Theory (Oxford UP).
Her work critiques racial constructs beyond Western frameworks, explores immigrant adaptation, and examines gender in Japanese media (e.g., Yaoi/BL culture). Notable awards include the 2017 ASA Asia Book Award for Divided Fates. Current interests include critical minerals geopolitics and transnational racial phenomena.
Dr. Suzuki teaches courses on gender, race, and Asian Studies. Recent publications engage comparative race theory, genomic-era racial categorization, and East Asian migration patterns. She mentors students researching Asia-focused sociological topics and has conducted fieldwork in Japan, Russia, and the US.
