University of the West of Englandمعرفی
Katrina Mitcheson is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of the West of England, affiliated with the Health and Social Sciences department. Her research bridges 19th/20th Century European philosophy with contemporary theories of the self, narrative, and corporeality, focusing on Nietzsche, Freud, Foucault, and Ricoeur.
- BA, MA, PhD
Her work explores how philosophical frameworks address self-knowledge, self-cultivation, and transformation, including intersections with Ancient philosophy (e.g., Nietzsche's Pyrrhonism, Foucault's Stoicism). She challenges narrative paradigms of self-construction through corporeal and artistic perspectives in her book Visual Art and Self-Construction.
Mitcheson has contributed to Nietzsche scholarship via BBC Radio Three's Free Thinking and The Listening Service, and is currently working on a guidebook on Nietzsche's Dawn. She leads the Philosophical Approaches to Cultures and Environments theme within the Social Science Research Group.
