Dr. Katrina Gee is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen's University, cross-appointed to the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME). Her research focuses on cytokine regulation, particularly IL-27's role in immune responses during infections and inflammation. She investigates how cytokines like IL-27 modulate innate immune cell functions, including anti-bacterial and anti-viral immunity, and their implications for therapies targeting cancer and autoimmune diseases. Her lab studies proinflammatory cytokine and chemokine pathways activated by pathogens and explores cytokine-based treatments.
Education: PhD in Microbiology and Immunology (2002), University of Ottawa; Postdoctoral Fellow (2006) in HIV cytokine modulation, University of Ottawa.
Research Interests: IL-12 family cytokines, immunopathogenesis, cytokine-driven inflammation, and translational applications in immunotherapy. Current projects include IL-27's impact on TLR4-driven immunity, molecular mechanisms of anti-viral responses, and cytokine roles in prostate cancer.
Advising: Supervises PhD and MSc students, including co-supervision with Sam Basta. Cross-appointed to TIME and affiliated with Queen's University research institutes.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Gee Lab, collaborating on cytokine biology and immune mediator research. Active in interdisciplinary projects linking basic science to clinical applications.
