Katrina Forsyth is a Research Fellow at the University of Manchester's Social Care and Society department, collaborating with the Health and Justice Research Network. With 15 years of experience, her work focuses on implementing and evaluating complex interventions in prisons, particularly addressing older prisoners' health/social care needs and broader criminal justice system challenges. She is a Senior Specialist Advisor for the NIHR Research Support Service's social care hub and co-Principal Investigator on two NIHR studies: a dementia care pathway implementation and a randomized controlled trial (RCT) on coordinated social care in prisons.
Education includes a PhD in 'Older adults health and social care needs in prison' (2020), MSc Research Methods, and a BA (Hons) in Sociology. She teaches qualitative research methods in Nursing/Midwifery and Social Work programs.
Research interests span older adult care in prisons, social care models, women's needs, expert-by-experience involvement, realist methodology, and evaluation of complex interventions. Current projects include dementia care pathways and coordinated social care RCTs.
Key activities include presenting on prison research methodologies and funding strategies. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through her work on health equity and social justice.
