Katrina Fincher is an Assistant Professor of Psychology (CSD) at The New School. Her research explores moral psychology, focusing on cognitive and perceptual mechanisms enabling social group cohesion, including perceptual dehumanization, covert retribution, and sacred values. She earned a PhD in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and holds affiliations with the Association for Psychological Science and Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
Her work bridges social, cognitive, and moral psychology, with studies on perceptual judgment, norm enforcement, and decision-making strategies. Notable contributions include investigations into facial perception's role in dehumanization and the dynamics of retributive behavior. She has received prestigious awards such as the Mortimer D. Sackler Summer Institute fellowship and Mellon Fellowship.
Fincher teaches courses like Politics and Psychology: Moral, Hierarchy, and Groups and Independent Study. Her research emphasizes practical applications of psychological insights to societal challenges, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry.
