Joan Miller is a Professor of Psychology (CSD) and Director of Undergraduate Studies and Departmental Advisor for Psychology at The New School for Social Research, part of The New School. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago (1982). Her research focuses on cultural psychology, particularly cultural influences on social cognition, relationships, and moral development. She leads the Cultural Psychology Lab (https://www.nssrculturalpsychologylab.com/).
Her work examines cultural norms in close relationships, stress/coping mechanisms, and cross-cultural perspectives on emerging adulthood. Awards include ISSBD and APS Fellowships and a Nehru Chair Visiting Professorship. She teaches courses like Developmental Psychology, Moral Reasoning, and Research Methods.
