Katrin Metsis is a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews, affiliated with the Population and Behavioural Science Division and the Institute of Behavioural and Neural Sciences. She holds a PhD co-supervised by Prof. Frank Sullivan and others, focusing on health inequalities among young people using census data and systematic reviews. Her research interests include public health, adolescent health, and healthcare ethics, particularly conflicts of interest in health professions.
Education includes a Master of Arts in Research Methodology from the University of Liverpool (2013), a Master of Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki (2008), and degrees in Social Work and Nursing from Estonian institutions. She previously worked at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine on maternal health studies and facility data monitoring.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education. Key research outputs include studies on youth health conceptualization, conflicts of interest in healthcare, and healthcare system evaluations. She collaborates across institutions including the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and presents at conferences on topics like data sharing for public health research.
Notable activities include peer reviewing for The Lancet Healthy Longevity and organizing public science events. Her doctoral research bridges statistical analysis of demographic health data with qualitative insights from young people’s perspectives on health.
