Dr. Katjana Gattermann is an Associate Professor in Political Communication and Journalism at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR), University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on media-politics relations, political communication, and EU politics, with a regional emphasis on Europe and the European Union. She leads the NWO-funded project on election result framing and co-leads the 'Future of European Democracy' initiative at ACES. Affiliations include the Center for Politics and Communication (CPC) and ACES. Her recent book The Personalization of Politics in the European Union (Oxford UP, 2022) examines leader-centric trends in EU governance. She has held postdoctoral roles at VU Amsterdam and Cologne University, and earned her PhD from LSE in 2012. Active in academic networks like ECPR and PADEMIA, she also serves on editorial boards and international research projects.

Research interests span personalized politics, election campaigns, and media effects. Recent work addresses disinformation concerns linked to far-right electoral success and the interplay between political leaders' dark traits and public polarization. Over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals like European Journal of Political Research and Journal of Common Market Studies showcase her contributions to EU democracy studies.
Teaching includes postgraduate courses on investigative journalism and European communication at UvA, alongside prior roles at LSE and Cologne.
