Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciencesمعرفی
Katja Lamia is a Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Scripps Research. Her lab focuses on circadian clock regulation of metabolism, DNA damage responses, and cancer progression. She holds a PhD in Biophysics from Harvard (2003) and a B.A. in Physics from UC Berkeley (1996).
- Educations: PhD (Biophysics, Harvard 2003), BA (Physics, UC Berkeley 1996)
- Research Interests: Circadian clocks' roles in tumor suppression, metabolic homeostasis, and exercise physiology. Specific projects include HIF2α regulation in renal cancer, CRY protein tumor suppression mechanisms, and circadian-chronopharmacology.
Notable achievements include discovering circadian disruption's role in HSF1-driven lung cancer progression and identifying CRY proteins' roles in suppressing mutations. Her work bridges molecular mechanisms with translational cancer therapies.
- Awards: Searle Scholars Award (2012), Sidney Kimmel Cancer Research Scholar (2013), Aschoff’s Rule Award (2016)
- Lab Location: 10550 North Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla CA 92037
Current investigations explore BMAL1-HIF2α interactions in kidney cancer, circadian regulation of exercise benefits, and cryptochrome's roles in tumor suppression. Her research emphasizes time-dependent therapeutic strategies for metabolic diseases and oncology.
