Katja Hiltunen is a doctoral researcher at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) within the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. Her research focuses on the impact of selective education systems on secondary school students, employing new materialist frameworks and qualitative/post-qualitative methodologies. Her work explores how policies and material objects (e.g., face masks during the pandemic) shape everyday educational experiences. She co-leads research in feminist, cultural, and social studies of education, emphasizing embodied learning and intra-action between humans and non-humans.
Her research interests include feminist pedagogy, the sociology of education, and speculative fabulation as a methodological tool. She has published on topics such as classroom dynamics, material agency, and the intersection of education policy with socio-cultural contexts. Her work bridges theory and practice, advocating for transformative educational practices that center embodied experiences and marginalized voices.
Key publications include studies on speculative fabulation in feminist education and analyses of material culture's role in shaping societal norms. Though currently without formal awards listed, her contributions highlight critical perspectives on education equity and posthumanist methodologies.
