Katie Wilkinson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at San José State University (SJSU). Her research focuses on neurophysiological mechanisms, particularly in muscle spindle function, respiratory physiology, and the effects of chronic hypoxia. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Diego (2009), and dual bachelor’s degrees in Neuroscience and History from the University of Pittsburgh (2004).

Dr. Wilkinson’s work investigates how physiological systems adapt to environmental challenges, such as hypoxia, and the neural pathways regulating respiratory and muscular responses. Her studies employ in vitro models and lesion-based approaches to dissect mechanisms in the nervous system. Recent research includes characterizing muscle spindle afferents and exploring ventilatory adaptations in chronically hypoxic conditions.
