Lucas R. Smith

Lucas R. Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at the University of California, Davis, within the College of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on skeletal muscle adaptation, particularly the fibrotic processes in pathologies like muscular dystrophies and cerebral palsy, and the role of extracellular matrix (ECM) mechanics in muscle function and regeneration.

• Education: B.S. and Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington and UC San Diego, respectively.

Smith’s work investigates how ECM structure influences muscle mechanics and stem cell regeneration, aiming to develop therapies for fibrotic diseases.
