Dr. Katie Stockdale is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Victoria, serving as Graduate Coordinator until 2026. She holds a PhD from Dalhousie University, with prior roles at Sam Houston State University and Cornell University as a research fellow. Her research focuses on moral psychology, feminist philosophy, and political philosophy, particularly exploring hope under oppressive conditions and affective injustice. Key works include Hope Under Oppression (Oxford UP, 2021) and her upcoming project Freeing the Heart. She has received awards such as the Faculty of Humanities Early Career Excellence in Research Award (2022) and holds extensive service roles in academic equity and ethics committees.
Education: BA (Western University), MA and PhD (Dalhousie University). Teaching specialties include feminist ethics, philosophy of emotions, and biomedical ethics. Active in public philosophy through media contributions and CBC appearances. Her service includes leadership in the American Philosophical Association’s Committee on the Status of Women and equity initiatives in Canadian and US academic institutions.
