Dr. Kathy Fawcett serves as a Senior Lecturer in Science Communication within the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), concurrently acting as Foundation Year Coordinator for Applied Sciences and providing personal science tutoring across academic levels.
Her educational foundation includes a BSc(Hons) in Botany, a PhD investigating plant growth in heavy metal-contaminated soils, and a PGCE, all from the University of Bristol, complemented by Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Research centers on embodied science communication in public spaces like museums and science centers, with critical exploration of identity, equity, and inclusivity in scientific practice. She examines intersections between formal and informal learning environments while advancing climate science communication through social justice frameworks, alongside specialized interests in plant science and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
No scientific awards are documented in available records.
Grant leadership includes the Royal Academy of Engineering-funded 'On Shaky Ground?' seismicity project and UK Space Agency-supported 'Earth to Mars' astrobiology initiative integrating robotics with planetary science. She co-founded 'Bristol Girls Make It' to promote women in STEM and shaped AQA General Studies A-level curriculum, particularly Science and Society modules.
Her institutional impact spans We The Curious Science Centre's educational programming for 70,000 annual visitors and 13 years as secondary science teacher and Sixth Form leader, driving innovative pedagogical approaches across formal and informal learning contexts.
