Kathryn Morgan is a Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Director of the African American Studies Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She holds appointments in the College of Arts and Sciences and has been with UAB since October 2011, serving as Director of African American Studies since 2013. Her academic background includes a BS and MA in Sociology from Texas Women's University and a PhD in Criminology from Florida State University.

Dr. Morgan's research focuses on corrections, probation/parole practices, correctional health care policy, race and crime dynamics, and the application of the death penalty in Alabama. She has authored a forthcoming book, Beyond Theory: Probation and Parole in Practice. Her teaching spans criminal justice and African American Studies, including courses on probation/parole, race and gender in crime, African history, and media studies.
