Dr. Kathryn Daley is a Senior Lecturer in Youth Work and Youth Studies at RMIT University’s School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS), and Associate Director of the Social Equity Research Centre (SERC). She co-leads the Homelessness and Housing Insecurity research program. Her academic background spans psychology and social science, with prior experience in non-profit sectors as a practitioner, researcher, and policy advisor. Her work focuses on improving wellbeing for marginalized populations, particularly children and youth.
Dr. Daley’s research interests include patterns of service use in homelessness services, predictive models of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), research ethics, and trauma-informed practice frameworks for youth workers. She also explores gender, substance abuse, and self-injury. She teaches courses on youth work ethics, trauma-informed practice, and self-regulation strategies using movement-based techniques like yoga and pilates.
Her recent advocacy includes calls for prison needle programs, drug-checking services, and critical analysis of crime statistics. She has been published in platforms like The Conversation and Power to Persuade, emphasizing harm reduction over criminalization in drug policy.
