Kathryn Byrnes is the Director of the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching and a Lecturer in Education at Bowdoin College. She specializes in contemplative pedagogy, faculty development, and inclusive education. Her work emphasizes mindfulness, community-centered learning, and evidence-based teaching strategies. She has initiated programs such as Teaching Times, the Faculty Fellows Program, and collaborative workshops across institutions.

Research interests include integrating contemplative practices into higher education, online learning design, and fostering inclusive classroom environments. She has co-edited multiple books on contemplative pedagogy and presented nationally on topics like mindful educator self-care and equity in STEM education.
Byrnes co-founded the Teaching in Mindful Education Institute (TiME) and previously served as Board President of the Mindfulness in Education Network (MiEN). Her teaching philosophy prioritizes student agency, holistic development, and culturally responsive practices.
