Prof. Kathrin Valerius is a Professor of experimental astroparticle physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where she serves as co-spokesperson for the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino Experiment (KATRIN). She leads research at the KIT Center for Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics (KCETA), focusing on developing highly sensitive detectors for astroparticle experiments. Her work spans international collaborations, including the XENON project for direct dark matter detection and the design of the successor experiment XLZD, which aims to advance rare-event observatories.
- Co-spokesperson of KATRIN experiment
- Member of the Helmholtz Matter and Universe program
- Lead researcher in dark matter detection via direct, indirect, and accelerator-based methods
Her research integrates theoretical and experimental approaches at the intersection of astrophysics, particle physics, and cosmology, with a strong emphasis on training students through hands-on involvement in cutting-edge projects.
