Jan Conrad is a Professor of Astroparticle Physics at Stockholm University's Physics department (Fysikum). He leads the DMAP research group focused on dark matter detection using various experimental approaches including satellite- and ground-based gamma-ray telescopes (Fermi Large Area Telescope and H.E.S.S.) and underground particle detectors (XENON experiment).
His research interests span astroparticle physics with a primary focus on dark matter detection. Conrad specializes in statistical data analysis techniques for particle physics experiments and previously served as a visiting professor at Imperial College London's mathematics department (2015-2018). His work connects elementary particle physics, astronomy, and astrophysics to explore dark matter both theoretically and phenomenologically.
Analysis of Conrad's recent publications reveals a strong focus on the XENONnT experiment for dark matter detection, with particular emphasis on statistical methods, background modeling, and signal processing. His research spans WIMP and light dark matter searches, neutrino physics, and detector development for next-generation experiments like XLZD and DARWIN.
Conrad leads the DMAP research group which currently includes one senior scientist (Jörn Mahlstedt), three post-docs (Timon Emken, Ashley Joy, Andrea Gallo-Rosso), and two PhD students (Cristian Antochi, Pueh Leng Tan). His group has produced numerous significant publications in high-impact journals related to dark matter research.
The DMAP group operates within Stockholm University's Physics department, collaborating with international experimental groups including XENON, DARWIN, and ALPHA. Conrad previously worked with AMANDA/IceCube neutrino telescope (1999-2003), at CERN within ALICE experiment (2004-2005), and briefly with satellite PAMELA (2006/2007).
